When I was 11 years old I was deeply shocked learning about the Holocaust
I wanted to know what made it possible for a society to do such a thing
One answer is that early on, in the 1930s, the Nazis arrested and killed their political enemies.
They went after the communists
They want after homosexuals
They want after the unions
Everybody knew it. So if you feared for your life you stayed quiet.
But look at us in 2025. We have been doing these protests for one and a half years.
The police are here every time.
They are not disappearing us. They are not beating us.
The only price we are paying for opposing the genocide of the Palestinians is some free time.
Opposing the genocide that our media, our politicians, our government supports carries a low personal cost
So my question is how it is possible that despite the low risk and the low cost, so many do nothing, say nothing, during a Holocaust, the worst thing that people can do to other people?
We have to go back to the 1930s again for the answer. The Nazis did not just eliminate the opposition. They also taught the German public that the life of Jews wasn’t worth anything. Jews were compared to rats.
So let’s look at our society. We have been hearing since early 2000, the Pim Fortuyn days, that Muslims and Arabs are suspect. They have the wrong opinions. Ever since, whether from Fortuyn or Wilders or Baudet, we have heard time and again that migrants are wrong, they are a threat. Muslims are wrong, they are a threat.
And not just in the Netherlands. Everywhere in the world we hear that foreigners are a problem and a threat.
If this message is pushed by most politicians and most media for 25 years, then we can see how a genocide of foreigners and (mostly) Muslims is tolerated or even supported.
If we do not fight this, there will be more genocide
