Since December 2023, there have been many sit-ins organized in Leiden Central Station, first by Leiden for Palestine, and since August 2025 by the Leiden Palestina Coalitie.
The sit-in generally draws a crowd of about 30 people, depending on the news cycle, the weather and the holiday periods.
Our goal is always the same: to inform the public, to express our opposition to the genocides as well as Dutch complicity in allowing the genocide to continue unchallenged. And to demand action, both from the public and from the government. We believe that it has been made clear the past years that our politicians, whether from the right or the center, have no intention of lifting a finger in order to stop the genocides. Therefore it is up to us to make them, and to encourage others to join us in this demand. We are the only help that's coming.
After the horrific images from the massacres in El Fasher, Sudan, in November 2025, the sit-ins have started to include opposition to the genocide in Sudan. Although Dutch ties to the Rapid Response Forces (RSF), chiefly responsible for the genocidal violence in Sudan, are unclear, there are some ties to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) , who fund and arm the RSF. The Netherlands could do more to oppose the genocide in Sudan, like resuming the embargo against arms to the UAE, which was ended in July 2023.
Our sit-ins welcome all who oppose genocide. We usually have chants, singing, speeches, name reading and even a choir to broadcast our message. If you would like to contribute, talk to anyone wearing an orange or yellow vest.
The sit-in takes place every Thursday between 18:00 - 19:30.
